Beef Semur

Ingredients:



Directions:

1. Heat oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add onion and cook until translucent, about 5 minutes; add garlic and ginger, cook for about one minute.

2. Raise heat to medium-high, add meat and cook until brown, about 7 to 10 minutes.

3. Stir in the rest of the ingredients except for the beef stock and pearl onions. Cook, stirring, for 5 minutes. Pour in beef stock and bring to a boil. Cover, and simmer on low heat for 45 minutes.

4. Add pearl onions, cover and simmer for an additional 45 minutes, stirring occassionally. Serve with rice.


Ketjap Manis substitute

Ingredients:



Directions:

1. Combine brown sugar and water in a saucepan, bring to a boil and stir until the sugar has dissolved into the water.

2. Stir in the rest of the ingredients, and simmer for 5 minutes.

3. Pour through a fine sieve, let cool and store in a container in the refirgerator. Will keep for up to 2 months.
